The Mushak Yomud Asmalyk

Sotheby's Fine Oriental and European Carpets, December 16, 1993, New York City Lot 155

Est. $40,000 - 60,000

Provenance: The Collection of Dr. Paul Mushak, purchased by Dr. Mushak in a small antique shop in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

This is lot 155 that was the subject of a long running feud in the pages of Oriental Rug Review.

Dr. Paul Mushak is one of the world's foremost experts in the field of dyes used in Oriental Rugs. His scholarly writings in the field and his close collaboration with people such as George Washington O'Bannon have added substantially to the amount of firm knowledge in a field that is dominated by dealer scholars.

Having seen this piece in person I must note that the color in the catalogue and also in my scans is not an accurate portrayal of this piece. It is much better looking in person.

Note: To further a long term research project I am collecting data. When a piece such as this may be of interest to others I have decided to share my notes prior to culmination of the project.
