An Isphahan Carpet,
(Detail)
Central Persia, late 17th
Century, rewoven and repiled areas, overcast
sides. Approximately 18fl. 8 in. by 8ft. 2 in.
(5.69 m. by 2.49 m.)
N.B. Isphahan is used here as a type name.
There is virtually no proof that supports
attributing this carpet to Isphahan, but a
British magazine and a small band of
dealer/scholars have pushed this as a name for a
large group many of which are more propperly
attributed to India, Khorasan, and Turania.
