A Central Asian Rug

Central Asia, early 19th century. Missing selvage along one corner edge. 4 ft. 6 in. by 9 ft. 9 in. (137 by 197 cm)

Warp; Wool, Z2S, natural ivory and brown twist.

Weft: Wool, Z2, 2 shoots, natural ivory and brown twist.

Pile: Wool, asymmetrical knot open to the left.

Density: 6 - 7h and 6 - 7 v.

Sides: 3 cords of 3 warps wrapped in natural brown goat hair.

Ends: Remnants of striped kilim end lower end, warp fringe.

Colors: Purple brown, madder, indigo, blue green, saffron, ivory, natural brown.
