JBOC's Notes on Oriental Rugs

Oriental Rug Books Authors Beginning with N

Tufenkian Carpets Area Rug Sale.

If I lost it I would not replace it.

Of some use but not one I would go out of my way to find.

Useful.

Very useful and one I would recommend strongly.

A very important or even the definitive work on the subject. It does not have to be perfect but if I give it 5 stars and you are interested in that area then you should own a copy.

Not Yet Rated - I haven't gotten to it yet so if you wish to review it please feel free. There is a limit to how many books I can read so it it is not rated do not assume anything is wrong with the book. New Archeological Finds In China. Peking: Foreign Language Press, 1974.

Very important textiles. This book was a major source for my article "Design Migration on the Silk Route" which was published by Oriental Rug Review as "Chinese Menu".

"Northeastern Asiatic Art", Toledo: The Toledo Museum of Art, 1942.

A museum catalogue with a keen insight into the art. For instance in a discussion of one bracelet it was explained how a Mongol family hoarded the silver for years before taking their design to a Chinese silversmith. The idea of the bracelet as important family wealth is important and also the idea that the family created the design making it Mongol even if the work is done by a Chinese artisan. All the more surprising when you realize the catalogue was a minor work in 1942. Some small and poor pictures.
