From: James Bowen Fascinating information!! I went back and put the rug on my watch list so I can see if it draws some action. The same seller has a rather large Tekke in very nice shape also listed. http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=316981184 It looks like rather late commercial Tekke production to me. It might just be the camera, but I don't think much of the magenta. (But then I'm no expert.) Given it's size and apparently flawless condition, I would guess it is probably worth the $1750 starting bid, but I couldn't believe any dealer would go that high as a first offer. Any opinions on this one? As always, many thanks for your service to all us rugnuts! - Jim Hello Jim, There is nothing wrong with the Tekke but the color does nothing for me. I expect older Tekkes to be redder and newer tekkes to be browner. This one is a little too brown . The seller wrote: "RECENTLY PURCHASED AT AN ESTATE
SALE. I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT RUGS AND I AM STARTING THE
BIDDING AT THE The person may well be telling the truth but the dealer who made that offer must see something in the rug that escapes me. I do not mean to say the rug is not worth $1750 to an individual but to a dealer that is another story. For a dealer to offer $1750 as a first offer he must think he can sell it for $5000 or more. So the pitch has a certain air of implausability but not that of impossibility. Then again I have seen rug experts offer way too much for a carpet and then regret it. Best wishes, Barry N. B. If you want my opinion on a rug on an Internet Auction or Sale Site such as eBay, Sotheby's, Cloudband, etc... just ask. |
