Dear Barry, I would like to know if their is any index or reference publications you follow to keep up on pricing of carpets? Specifically, Caucasians from the late 1800-early 1900's? I know price depends on many factors including condition, uniqueness, age, etc but I have traditionally followed the auction sales (Sotheby's and Christie's) but wonder if their is a better indicator and one on the web which can be used for indicative purposes? Like any pieces of art, the price is in the eye of the beholder but it is always nice to have a base from which to compare. Any comments or direction you can provide would be helpful. Best Regards |

| Hello John, There is no where on the net to get really good auction coverage. If you want to stay up to date on market trends you need Hali. They have the very best information. I think Ralph Kaffel provides most of the actual reviewing at least on US auctions and he is about the best there is in the field. Hali is not inexpensive but it is well worth every cent. Unless you can get Kaffel to call you after each sale Hali is the best. www.Hali.com Best wishes, Barry |
